University of Birmingham

The conference will be held at the University of Birmingham. The facilities are set in and around the historic red-brick buildings of the University of Birmingham, on a peaceful, leafy campus only 2 miles south of Birmingham city centre.

 

Getting There

The University’s website provides excellent directions on how to get to the venue – a summary is provided below.

Car

Approaching from the north west or south east along the M6:
Leave at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham Central) to join the A38 (M).
At the end of the motorway, keep to the right, go over a flyover, then through some underpasses to join the A38 Bristol Road. The University is on your right, two and a half miles from the city centre.

Approaching from the M42 north:
Leave at Junction 8 to join the M6 northbound and follow the instructions above.

Approaching from the south west:
Leave the M5 at Junction 4 signposted Birmingham SW to join the A38.
The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway.

Approaching from the M40:
It is easier to turn south on the M42 and leave at Junction 1, heading north on the A38 Bristol Road. The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway.

Parking:
There is University visitor parking and there are also several public (NCP) car parks in the vicinity.

Rail

The nearest rail station to the venue is called University.

Most cross-country services to Birmingham arrive at New Street Station. Up to six trains an hour then depart for the University station on the cross-city line (six minutes to University station, with the final destination Longbridge or Redditch).

The centre of the main campus is a five-minute walk from University Station.

Air

If you are coming from outside the UK, the nearest airport is Birmingham International Airport

Birmingham International Airport has its own train station, Birmingham International, which allows you to get to directly to Birmingham New Street. Change here to continue your journey to University.

Arriving at a London airport and continuing to Birmingham by train

If you arrive in London by air and proceed to Birmingham by train, in most cases you will have to travel by underground train to Euston railway station in the centre of London. There is a regular rail service from London’s Euston Station to Birmingham New Street. Remember to allow yourself enough time to collect your luggage, pass through immigration and travel across London.
